California Black Media Launches New Website Before Annual Summit |
|
Tuesday, 02 June 2009 |
The Black Voice Foundation for Media, History, & the Arts realizes the
ever-changing face of online news and trends in newspaper publishing
requires a strong response, particularly for ethnic media given the size
of distribution and circulation territories. On May 14, the foundation
launched California Black Media Online (CBM), a news portal on the web
that displays several of the top news articles from all Black-owned
newspapers throughout the state. The current CBM web site, sponsored by
Southern California Edison, is in its first phase and will continue to
grow.
CBM has more newspaper publications and radio stations combined than any
other state, which underscores the significance of this endeavor. CBM
Online is just the first phase of a larger “new media” initiative for
California’s Black Media outlets.
Next week, the organization will host its annual spring Summit and
Newsmaker Reception on Thursday, May 21, 2009 in Sacramento. For the first
time, CBM will host a forum in conjunction with the Research & Policy
Institute of California focusing on the "Green Economy and the African
American Community."
The forum will be moderated by RPIC Chairman Tommy Ross with special guest
panelists Leonard E. Robinson, Federal Liaison of the California
Environmental Protection Agency, V. John White, Executive Director of the
Center for Energy Efficiency & Renewable Technologies, Barry Sedlik, Chair
of the California Green Jobs Council, and Craig Keys, Executive Director
of the Green Valley Initiative. Special recognition will be given to Karen
Bass, Speaker of the Assembly.
CBM’s 2009 Newsmakers Reception will honor a number of key "newsmakers"
including Barbara Lee, Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, Sandre
Swanson, Chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus, Mayor Kevin
Johnson, City of Sacramento, Dr. William "Bill" Lee, Publisher of the
Sacramento Observer, and Virniecia Davis, President of the California
Black School Board Members Association.

RPIC Announces Sponsorship by Southern California Edison
Sacramento, CA - March 31, 2009 - It is with great
pleasure that the Research and Policy Institute announces Southern
California's continued sponsorship of $25,000 for the African American
Youth Leadership Program (AAYLP). In
its sixth year, AAYLP continues to assist students from all over the
state in nurishing their leadership potential through interactive
workshops, seminars and networking. Southern California Edison's
sponsorship will help RPIC in continuing to provide AAYLP at no cost to
the participating students or their families. The sponsorship also
includes $5,000 for scholarships for participating students that
exhibit exceptional leadership skills during the summer conference.
"In
today's economic climate, it is refreshing to know that there are still
corporations such as Southern California Edison that are committed to
supporting the development of tomorrow's leaders," remarks RPIC's
executive director, Casanya Ursery. "We truly appreciate our growing
relationship with Southern California Edison. Such relationships
continue to help us help so many young leaders."
About The Research & Policy Institute of California:
Research
and Policy Institute of California (RPIC) is a non-profit organization
that provides leadership training, public policies, and community
awareness to the African American communities, through a variety of
sponsored programs.
RPIC's goal is to bridge the gap between
the African American community and access to resources which are
essential to their economic, social and educational well being. We will
build this bridge by providing opportunities and training for our
leaders of tomorrow while serving as a research and analysis
clearinghouse for today's public policy makers.
The African American Youth Leadership Program (AAYLP) is a division of RPIC with
the goal of providing the leaders of tomorrow with the necessary tools to be
prepared for today's corporate world. We believe that this goal can be achieved
in providing students with academic guidelines, interactive training and
exchanges with business leaders and policy makers. AAYLP participants are
prepared with the practical training to be effective leaders in their
communities.
About Southern California Edison:
Southern California Edison (SCE) is the largest electric utility in California,
