With this first issue of our newsletter, now is a good time to reflect on the many changes that are occurring for RPIC.

2006 was a very busy year for RPIC.  From it’s involvement in the State of Black California Report to the nationwide expansion of the AAYLP Summer Conference to the inauguration of the CCC Summer Algebra Institutes, RPIC is definitely establishing itself as a strong thread within the fabric of California’s African American community.

It has also been a time of new beginnings for RPIC.  In November of 2006, RPIC opened the doors of its new office in beautiful downtown Sacramento, just two blocks away from the State Capitol.

During this year, RPIC also expanded its focus to include efforts directed toward bettering the conditions for some of California’s most vulnerable citizens— the children of the foster care system (See related article, “Giving the Unspoken a Voice”).     RPIC has dedicated itself to other public policy issues that are of greatest concern to the African American community in California.

RPIC plans to continue the work that it has begun while ever pressing to do even more to build bridges between California’s African American community and the resources that are vital to the success and longevity of this community.
